Hola Again

The three of them tengah bersantai.

Salamz all,

It has been quite a long time I didn't post any news here. Bz la katakan. My tutorial classes had begun and it was really tiring especially now, the fasting month. We're very lucky that our tutor was letting us to start the 3rd tutorial earlier. Kalau tak, sampai rumah terus berbuka la gamaknya. Hehe. All my sisters pon bz, menjahit, tempahan kuih (since she's promoting her kuih in the net) Nak criter apa ek kali nih. How's the fasting? Here, in Kedah, the weather was quite ok. For the first week of fasting month, it was raining for the whole week. Sampaikan at certain area, banjir plak because of the non-stop raining. Kesian la, they have to break their fast at the relief centres. I think maybe the flood sudah flushed-away kot by now. Pity them. I have never met with that kind of experience. Cuma berasa tidur ramai-ramai masa pergi camping le. Zaman sekolah dulu. Hehe. Apa lagi nak cakap ek.. Stop dulu la buat masa ni. Ngantuk gler nih. C ya alls..

Beli atau Buat?

Last Raya at Kakak's House
Salamz all,

Puasa just begins and soon will be Syawal plak. So, how's your preparation for Hari Raya? Still counting meh? Hehe... Apa yang nak dicounting kan? Money ke? Huhu. My suggestion is..kalau anak sidek ramai and they all sudah besar, better you make your own kuih la, because you already some helpers to help you to make the kuih. Lagi jimatun and save yr time tu. Kalau kuih tunjuk2 ni, I think this year all the kuih naik harga due to naik gaji punye pasal because last time RM 15 is for 50 pieces of raya cookies and suprisingly this is is RM 14 for 40 pieces raya cookies. Nampak murah, tapi jumlah kuih pun kureng. Taktik tuu... One more thing.. baju raya.. beli siap atau tempah? Kalau tempah, of course la baju itu akan ikut sedap badan kita (ye ke.. two years ago, the tailor jahit my baju wrongly... kain mahal plak tu... tensen.. until now tak pakai!) This year, I would buy the ready made punye baju. It's cheaper u know... u don't believe me, u go to First Lady boutique... voila... varieties of designs available there. U just imagine beli kain pasang RM 60 and upah jahit baju kurung is around RM 35-40. Jumlah altogether is RM 95 or RM 100. Kalau beli ready made, tak sampai harga tu. Nak-nak area Kedah ni kan.. Berlambak kedai butik Melayu yang menawarkan harga unbelievable. But then, if u want a better quality, u have to pay more. The price would be much-much lower during the Malam Raya. Believe me.. Tapi stock plak problem kan. Hehe... Shopping earlier utk mengelakkan kesesakan lalulintas.. huhu.. Ok la c ya.. Sakit kepala tak habis nih.. Sabo jer.. Happy fasting alls

Taman Mini

Salamz all.

Here is the latest creation of my taman mini (with the help of my mother during her visit that day). Still under construction. If you have any idea, please write some comment ok. Tq

Bahasa Kedah - Bahasa Malaysia

Yuhu,
Welcome back. What I want to touch here is about the difference between the languages in Malaysia. The easiest sample would be the Bahasa Kedah and Bahasa Malaysia. In Kedah for instance, they called breakfast as menyorok (I dont know the exact spelling), whereby menyorok in BM means hiding. Quite funny sometimes when we listen to the Kedah's words. It was quite challenging when we are not speaking the same tune . Sometimes, we would also misunderstand it. I will show u some examples too.
This scenario happened 6 years back, the earlier days in Kedah after I got married with my husband.
"Syah, nyorok dah ka?" asked my mom in law. I was shocked at first. Why on earth should I be hiding? Then, my sister in law said,"Tau ka makna tu? Nyorok tu sarapan." Oh....
Next is this phrase.
"Mengkala mai?" If you are an outsider, you totally got confiused and don't know how to answer it. I just nodded my head and smiled when the first time someone asked me that question. Then, that person just laughed at me and asked me again by rephrasing her question,"Bila mai?" Oh.. mengkala mai means bila sampai - when did u arrive?
Now, look at this phrase. This thing happen when I was first posted in Kuala Nerang, Kedah which was absolutely a remote area at that time.
"Budak tu penyegan nak mampuih la. Tak tau nak buat apa dah!" said a lady teacher in my school. I was thinking,"Eh, bagus le dia penyegan. Kang kalau dia kurang ajar, payah plak!" I just kept my mouth shut since I don't know how to reply it. After a few weeks later, then only I knew that penyegan refers to lazy really-really lazy. They would also said it this way.. "Eee..segannya nak pi kantin". That means, "I'm so lazy to go the canteen." Hehe. Can you see it? That's how the Kedah said.
And MORE....
Kedah - Malaysia - English
buas - nakal - naughty.
e.g : Budak tu buas sungguh. (I tot buas refer to an animal's action - wild)

berceretet - terlalu ramai - too many
e.g : Anak-anak dia berceretet. (I don't know the word's origin)
moi - bubur nasi - rice porridge
e.g : Aku teringin nak makan moi. (Bubur in Kedah refers to the sweet porridge such as bubur chacha)
gerek - basikal - bicycle
e.g : Cek pi skola naik gerek. (Is it siamese language?)

market - pasar - market
e.g : Mama pi market tak sat ni. (Aik.. advance nih ada lak bhs omputih)
la - sekarang - now
e.g : Aku nak benda ni siap la. (Very short haaa..)
hang - kau - you
e.g : Hang nak pi mana? (Macam citer Hang Tuah daaa)
gerumit - pengasah pensel - sharpener
e.g : Mana pi gerumit aku? (It reminds me of Gurmit Singh..hahaha)
cham - pengumpul sampah - dust collector
e.g: Sapa pulak pinjam cham nih!

mertun - pengetuk besi - hammer
e.g : Hoi, mana hang nak bawa pi mertun tuu...
depa - mereka - they
e.g : Depa nak pi mana tu? (sometimes they pronounce it... lepa)

lemu - lembu - cow
e.g : Lemu cek kena semelih.

aiyaq - air - water
e.g: Aku lapaq aiyaq nih! ( They refer to thirsty as lapar instead of dahaga)

cek - saya - I
e.g: Cek tak tau la nak buat lagu mana. (cek is used to refer to his/herself in good manner)

lagu - macam - how
e.g : Lagu mana jadi ni?
mai - datang - come
e.g : Mai masa mana?

Sometimes, the Kedahan would say something in short sentences.
e.g :
  • Pi mana? (We always say : Kau nak pergi mana?)
  • La ni hang mau pa? ( Sekarang ni kau cakap kau nak apa?)

Anyway, I really hope that the Kedahan won't be mad at me. It's true right? The Kedahan have this some kind of unique characteristic in their language. They should feel proud using it. Same like the people in Melaka. They are recognised by the use of "sweet" language such as "Celaka ko!", "Lahabau" as a greet to their closest friends and relatives. Rasa macam tengah ajo kelas bahasa plak. So, can I considered myself multilingual?

Salam Ramadhan

Hi you alls,
Hehe.. lamanye tak posting latest news. Due to my work load and time constraint, I could just cut and paste all the jokes that were sent to me tru my email. I do hope that all of u could enjoy it (baper ramai le pengunjung blog aku ek.. hehe). By the way, Ramadhan is just around the corner. Rindunye pada my parents, I do remember when the time to break fast, all the family members would gathered around the saprah and waiting for Babah to recite the prayer... siap dengan translation lagi. Huhu. Then, as usual the lauk pauk would be variety and not forgetting the assam pedass kaw kaw punya lor... Our favourite drinks would be sirap selasih and also air bandung soda -sedapnye. As far as I remember, all the kuih muih, we never bought it since my mum always said "Kuih orang jual bukan sedap pun. Asyik letak ajinomoto aje." So, from 5 o'clock all the anak2 dara would be busy cooking, preparing the dishes while the anak bujang teruna would busy lighting up all the lamps (how we say pelita in english aa?). Those were the days. I wish that all those days would come again. Tapi its the hukum alam and masa, we would never turn back the clock. Huhu.
My mum favourite kuih would be badak berendam, kuih abuk2, onde-onde (in Kedah they called it kuih buah melaka) and also putri mandi. Sometimes, my mum would also make some pulut hitam porridge with the coconut milk on top of it (in Kedah, they mix the coconut milk together with the porridge). So tempting! Yummy.
Fo sahur, my mum would cook different dishes since my dad is a bit cerewet (he never wants something that is recook). With the delicious sambal telur and also serunding Kelantan (which I think the best!) that would do lah. Even now, during the sahur time, my hubby and I would just eat the serunding (right now beli kat Giant je.. same taste like Kelantan's) with the steamy rice. Kalau rajin tu, baru la add-on other type of lauk-pauk. Hehe.. eh lupa lak nak express my gratitude to my only sahur chef - my B. Hehe..Sat g marah plak tak announce his name.
So, my dear friends and family, I would like to wish everyone Salam Ramadhan and I'm looking forward to meet all my family members during Raya. Sadly, this year the government tak bagi bonus plak... HUwaAaAaaaaAAAAaaaaa.. macam mana nak kelik Melaka nih? Huhuhu. Sampai hati Pak Lah... huhu

Job Interview

"I hear the phone GREEN, GREEN... GREEN..., then I go and PINK up the phone, I say YELLOW...BLUE's that? WHITE did you say? Aiya...! wrong number la...Don't PURPLEy disturb people and don't call BLACK, ok? Thank you."
Lepas tu pengurus tu terus pengsan!!

Why Malaysian Government insists on using English for Math and Science?

This is because the whole world uses the language as an information and/or technology language. How dangerous it will be if we try to use Bahasa, especially in school.
See example below.
Hardware = barangkeras
Software = baranglembut
Joystick = batang gembira
Plug and play = cucuk dan main
Port = lubang
Server = pelayan
Client = pelanggan
Try to translate this:
ENGLISH :
That server gives a plug and play service to the clients using either hardware or software joystick. The joystick goes into the port of the client.
Now in BAHASA:
Now you know... why...

Kenapa Mati Hari Jumaat?

Bajet 2008

Sudah dengar bajet 2008?
I think my sister would love to hear about the allowance for the Guru Pendidikan Khas akan dinaikkan. Memang tidak dinafikan jadi guru pendidikan khas is much tougher than a kindergarten school teachers. This is because the pendidikan khas teachers face all the special kind of pupils who need special kind of treatment. Without much patience and semangat, I dont think anybody would survive in teaching those special kids. Sometimes, we tend to treat all our pupils equally whereby the pupils need extra attention from us. When we see the pupils have bad handwriting, we should investigate why they couldn't write nicely. Maybe, they couldn't see clearly. Being a teacher is quite tough. Sometimes people tought that be a teacher is quite easy. Just go to school early in the morning and come back at 2.00. Wahh.. so senang la jadi cikgu... cuti banyak.. Yes, the school holiday is so banyak, but then, some people didn't realise that during the cuti sekolah, they will still go to school for extra classes, doing this and that, decorating the class(hehe) and also go out for courses(I use to go to courses during the school holiday). Cuti sekolah doesn't mean cuti for the teachers. Workload is still waiting for the teachers to come and finish it...Only the person who involves in this field will understand the world of education better.
Congratulation to all pupils in Malaysia because starting next year, they don't have to pay anymore school fees. Thanks to Pak Lah la kan. Same goes to the textbooks, insyaAllah we don't have to buy the textbooks since the kerajaan is so generous to give the textbooks to all the pupils. So, to all parents, jagalah buku teks anak-anak anda. Hargailah kemudahan yang diberikan. Pastikan buku berbalut supaya dapat tahan at least 3 tahun. Huhuhu...
Adei, ngantuks plaksss.. I think I should stop now. Tomorrow I got tutorial la deii.. C ya.

My Classroom

Hi Hi Hi!

Utk pengetahuan U alls semua, this is my classroom. Pity me because this year they gave me an old building.(Only two classes in this old building which is made of wood, whereby other buildings are made of cement and concrete!) So, I cannot do much to make it nicer because no budget la dei... So, I just did based on what the money can buy. I was quite happy because my pupils really gave 100% coorperation to decorate the class. Some of them willing to spend their own money to buy brooms, dust collector, wall clock etc. Some of them also shared their money (but then, my money went out much much more laaa..) to buy the tikar getah to put on their desks. Furthermore, other misc such as the apples, teapots and the colourful squares around the board, I did it myself. The reading corner still in progress. I was quite busy this year (busy with the new baby -absent from school for 2 months, busy with courses), so I couldn't do much. Hehe... That's all that I can give to my class this year. I really hope that I could do better next year! I think the classroom should be condusive and also educationing so that the pupils will be comfortable and also happy to come to school.

Training Session

Salamz alls,
Next week, would be my turn to bring my pupils to perform any kind of performance in front of assembly. I asked them to sing in group (actually the whole class). They will sing 2 songs - Do Re Mi and also Happy Wandering. They were very excited to perform in front of everybody. Actually this is one of the programme yang telah dirangka during the English Panel Meeting. Since English is alien to some of the pupils, so, we will make this kind of activity by sending representative from each class every week to perform in front of the assembly. This is to make them familiar with the language. They can choose either they want to sing, recite poem, rhymes or read short stories. We really hope that we can enhance not only their interest and knowledge but also their love towards the language better. (betul ke sentence structure aku ni?)
Good luck pupils!

Thinking Skill

My son is thinking happily on how to enter the password of the laptop. Hehehe

As in the real world, most of the school are exam-oriented. Belajar untuk jawab exam sahaja. U just imagine, for instant, during the English Language subject , they will learn all the 4 skills, reading, listening, speaking and writing. But in the end, during the UPSR, they just tested on writing skill. That's really frustrating, dan all the 4 skills tak diuji secara menyeluruh (takut plak aku komen banyak2, sat g depa kacau aku plakk..). Only now, baru la nak buat PLBS atau SBOA (School-oriented Based Oral Assessment). But, still not practical. Because that thing is STILL not counted as one of the UPSR punye markah. Kenapa? If the percentage goes down, the JPN will blame the schools, year 6 teachers and of course they will visit those schools frequently. The schools and teachers really didnt want this to happen. So, they just concentrate on the writing skill. How to write a good essay, how to give moral values based on the essay etc. Latih tubi non stop which is good because practice makes perfect. Hehe. But then, what about their thinking skill?

That's why, the Higher Order Thinking mencadang that the assessment method should be changed. Instead of just answering the exam in old fashioned way (objectives questions and essays), they should be given other ways to answer the exam questions such as, creating portfolios, school projects etc. We could also generate the pupils thinking skill by asking questions that has many answers. We should prevent asking questions that have only one particular answer.

And as Ateh said, why do Science and Maths are important? Because Science and Maths are generating the thinking skills. We will use all the thinking skills when we are learning Science and Maths. So, plez love these subjects and they'll help u to enhance your thinking skills. Good luck!

Happy 6th Anniversary!

Takku sangka-sangka, today is our 6th (or Sexennial-according to Latin derived numerical name) wedding annivesary. To my hubby, thank you for loving me and thank you for supporting me all these while. I am so grateful to have you to to be my husband. I also thank to Allah for blessing our marriage with three wonderful children. Hopefully they'll be anak-anak yang soleh. Hopefully after this, I will get a girl plak. Huhu. Just now I received an SMS from my hubby wishing me Happy Wedding Anniversary. Tak sangka plak he remembered this day, because normally he'll forget. Even my own birthday pun, he had a hard time to remember. At last, I was the one yang SMS kat dia and wrote, "Today is my birthday" Sabor je la... Hehehe.
What is my hope for the anniversary? Like I said just now, I just wish for the best and hopefully we will be living happily ever after. Luv u so much, B!
What is my wish for this anniversary? I wish that I could make a kenduri ke, throw an anniversary party ke today. Macam Dato' Siti buat, tapi nobody wants to sponsor the party for me. So, malam ni I masak special je le utk my hubby. Hehe.. Menu extra special, ayam masak BBQ. Hehehe... Ntah jadi ntah tidak. Janji boleh SORU... Hikhikhik

Usaha Tangga Kejayaan

From left : Myself, Yana (niece), late Zikry, Alang and Ateh.

Recently, I chatted with my sisters, Uda and Alang using the YM. They live in Singapore. So, by using the net we can interact with each other. I really miss them. They told me that they started a small business. Buat kuih laaa.. Hantar kat kedai makan early in the morning. I was impressed with them. Rajin sungguh, walaupun anak2 sidek keliling pinggang. At night, they'll sew clothes. Dan khabarnya, tempahan cukup banyak sampai tak menang tangan. Sungguh mengkagumkan. Ada sorang lagi akak aku plak cakap, "Eeee, tak kelas le buat kuih nih! Macam orang miskin aje!" Kak Uda balas "Dengan duit buat kuih ni aku dapat pergi holiday ke Kedah" Memang Kak Uda aku ni suka pergi holiday. Sekali-sekala beralih angin, memang menyeronokkan, tapi... siap duit laa... Aku pun lama tak pergi holiday. Bz dengan workload, money crisis..kuikuikui. Kalau time holiday pun, balik Melaka ajer ler...

Tensen aje kalau beli. Kalau mak aku buat, isinya padat, kulit nipis aje, sedap dan rangup...krup..krup..krup. Mak aku selalu pesan, kalau buat kuih, kena buat betul-betul. Segala rencah kena cukup, jangan main buat aje. Nanti orang tak beli dah kuih kita. Oh, lupa plak nak citer, mak aku seorang pembuat kuih yang berjaya. Hehe. Masa kami kecik-kecik dulu, semua kuih mak aku buat utk tea time, tak pernah beli. Nasi lemak kat kantin 20 sen tapi sambal sikit, ikan bilis 2 ekor aje. Arwah datuk aku dulu peniaga berjaya. Berniaga kat Banda Hilir, yang jadi tourism spot sekarang nih. Mak cerita, time dulu-dulu, Datuk siap pakai kereta. Tapi kejap aje, sebab ada orang nak beli kereta tu, Datuk jual lah. Hebat la kalau zaman dulu dah pakai kereta.

So, mulalah berniaga. Even sekarang ni pun, aku tolong mak mertua aku berniaga barang-barang dari kedai dia. Shhhhh... mana boleh berniaga time kerja.... shhhhh..... diam.. diam... :p

Anyway, happy berniaga you alls.. Usaha lebih giat lagi. Jangan malu untuk memulakan langkah pertama. Because a mile starts with a single step.

God Bless Us!
